Scalp Micropigmentation

SMP is an innovative, non-invasive solution for hair loss. Walk into our studio with thinning hair or balding scalp and walk out with confidence & hair that appears thick, full and youthful.

What is it? SMP is the replication of hair follicles with ink to give the realistic, natural illusion of hair growth. This detailed process is for men and women because it creates the simulation of hair in the areas where hair has stopped growing completely or has thinned and needs density.

Frequently Asked Questions

SMP is great for men and women with naturally thinning hair who are ready to get their confidence back. This procedure can also be performed on bald scalps, beards, bald spots due to alopecia, hormonal changes, chemo, trauma scars, FUE & FUT hair implant scars and more.

We offer free consultations because areas of hair loss can vary per person, price varies and consultations are necessary to determine what areas are needed and answer any questions you may have.

What is a typical procedure like?

At your first session, we start with measurements, discuss where you would like more density and create a custom design for you. Our detailed process is completed in 3-4 sessions spaced about 1 week apart. Multiple sessions are required to complete the layering process and build density for natural looking results but we don't charge per session. Our price will cover all sessions to complete.

(Please note: several SMP scams have pay-by-session offers or claim they can complete your treatment in just one session. This is physically impossible due to the layering effect required for natural-looking results.)

The procedure is performed in a comfortable environment where you can relax and enjoy entertainment such as movies, tv and free Wi-Fi or take a nap during your treatment.

Does it hurt?

SMP is very gentle and most clients feel comfortable and do not require anesthetic spray but we do have it available. You may take a pain management medication of your choice 30 minutes before your appointment (Tylenol, CBD, Ibuprofen, etc...).

Is there Downtime?

There is no downtime but it is extremely important to avoid sweating or getting your scalp wet for 3-4 days after each appointment. This is to ensure good color retention. We are happy to provide you with a waterproof shower cap for bathing.

What should I do before my appointment?

The night before your appointment, exfoliate your scalp and don’t apply oil, serum, or wax products. Get a good night’s sleep before your treatment day, wash your hair in the morning and eat a hearty meal before coming in. Healthy, hydrated skin is the best canvas for great results. Every cell in the body requires water so we encourage you to drink lots of water before and after the session to help your skin absorb & retain the ink more easily, without thinning the blood. Do not work out on the day of the procedure and don’t tan two weeks prior or have a sunburned face.

Will SMP damage my hair/hair follicles?

Definitely not! Scalp Micropigmentation is a form of micro-needling that will stimulate the follicles and promote hair growth in some clients.

Will I need to cut my hair?

If you don’t ever plan to shave your head then no. For best coverage, we do suggest trimming hair short for the procedure, if you feel comfortable doing so but it is not required. If you may want to buzz your hair later, then we highly recommend a buzz cut before the procedure but not within 24 hours because it is important for us to see all natural hair growth to properly blend the hair follicles.

Do Women get SMP?

Absolutely! 50% of women experience noticeable hair loss or thinning hair. This can happen for many reasons including age, medications, alopecia, changes in hormones (pregnancy, menopause, etc...). SMP is a great option for creating the appearance of density and fullness.

How much does Scalp Micropigmentation cost?

The treatment cost depends on your specific needs and can only be determined once we assess your case in person. Some clients only need small areas on their beard, a scar or around their hairline. Others require full crown to hairline coverage. You can expect to pay around $1500-3,500. Prices vary per person and very small areas, beards, scars, etc... may cost less.

Enjoy your appointment!

Feel free to take Tylenol, dress comfortable, bring earphones to listen to music or an audio book or simply relax & take nap during your service. We have complimentary refreshments, water, snacks, coffee & tea available during your appointment or for your trip home. We look forward to seeing you!

Pre Care for SMP

  • Wash your scalp with a non-abrasive, gentle shampoo the week prior to your procedure.

  • If experiencing breakouts on your scalp, please visit a dermatologist to resolve this issue prior to your procedure.

  • After washing the scalp, you may moisturize the skin with some form of skin moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated, only if needed. Doing so will allow the ink to be properly absorbed. This is not mandatory and too much oil in the scalp is not good either.

  • Refrain from sun tanning to avoid burning and peeling of the skin. Focus on relaxing and get a good night’s rest before your procedure.

  • Eat a hearty and healthy meal before your procedure, and drink lots of water. No alcohol or drugs 48 hours before your procedure.

  • If you are extremely sensitive to pain, feel free to bring some Tylenol to your appointment.

  • You may bring a clean hat or scarf to loosely cover your head after the treatment if so desired, but not recommended.

  • Hair Piece – Please do not wear a hair piece at least 7 days prior to your scheduled procedure. As wearing a hair piece may limit oxygen flow to the scalp and the ink may not be fully absorbed into the follicle.

  • Hair Preparation – Please do not use a razor on your scalp within 24 hours of the scheduled procedure. It is critical that we see all natural hair in order to properly blend the hair follicles.

  • A healthy scalp will be very helpful in achieving optimal results.

Post Care Instructions for SMP

  • Relax & enjoy the first step towards your new look.

  • Avoid any activities that will cause you to sweat. Don’t wash your head or get water on it. The desire to wash your scalp may be strong, but for the first three days you should resist the temptation. We are happy to provide a shower cap for bathing.

  • No shaving, shampoo, water, soap, or anything on the head for the first 3 days following treatment. No gym, running, weight lifting, cardio, shaving, or any strenuous activities for the first 3 days following treatment. By day 4, you may sweat lightly and take showers with just water, no soap or shampoo.

  • To avoid infection, only touch scalp with clean hands/items while healing.

Day 4-6

  • Resist the temptation to pick scabs because it will cause color loss.

  • Now is also a great chance for to wash your head but avoid shampoo. You can dab dry, but do not rub your head to dry.

  • You can also moisturize your head and you can perform activities from which you sweat lightly. Avoid cardio and heavy sweating.

Day 7 +

  • At this point, you can resume your showering sessions and get back to your usual schedule. There won’t be any issues with the water or with the shampoo when you wash your scalp.

  • This is the time when you might consider using a razor blade or electric foil shaver to shave your head. However, avoid using it if there are still healing scabs on the skin.

  • If you’re itching to get back to the gym, you can now get back to your usual routine and sweat as much as you’d like.

Day 30 (after final session is complete)

  • Relax & enjoy your new look!

  • Follow the same aftercare above that you followed for previous sessions.

  • Moisturize daily with a light moisturizing cream.

  • Although optional, we recommend taking measures to avoid head shine, like Max Anti-Shine Gel which compliments SMP.

  • Do not rub or traumatize the procedure area while it is healing (pigment may be removed along with scabs).

  • After all sessions are done and your scalp is healed, use a strong, oil-free, quality sun block to prevent future fading of pigment color. Continue to use sunblock on your head daily as part of your routine.

  • Do not use products that contain AHA’s on the procedure area. (Example: Glycolic, Lactic Acids. Always check your product labeling) it will fade your pigment color.

  • If you have any questions or concerns, please send us a message. We are always happy to help.
